Temperament

Cocker Spaniels are sweet, merry and affectionate. They're usually friendly with children and other pets. Some can be sensitive or anxious, so gentle handling and good breeding matter.

Exercise and energy

Moderate: about an hour a day of walks and play. They love to sniff and retrieve.

Grooming

The silky coat needs brushing several times a week and professional trimming every 6–8 weeks. Check and clean the long ears weekly — Cockers are prone to ear infections.

Training

Eager to please and responsive to gentle, reward-based training.

Health

Watch for ear infections, eye diseases (cataracts, glaucoma, progressive retinal atrophy), hip dysplasia, skin problems and immune-mediated diseases.
